Much publicity has been given to the frightening statistics detailing the prevalence of HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa. But other health conditions, such as diabetes, are also serious factors that cause concern.

Apart from the tragic human impact of HIV and diabetes, these conditions pose a serious threat to governments and insurers in our region – and beyond. While governments have implemented awareness campaigns and ARV programs, insurers have generally responded by declining cover to people affected by HIV and diabetes, or by making it too costly for them to participate.
